The Queensland Government, through the Department of Local Government, Racing and Multicultural Affairs (DLGRMA) is working with Welcoming Cities to explore leading practice to support interested regional councils in attracting, growing and retaining diversity. Under the banner of Welcoming and Inclusive Communities, Welcoming Cities has delivered an initial research project in partnership with the Monash Migration and Inclusion Centre – which considered the key success factors of regional migration and identified a number of operational scenarios and contexts.Informed by the research, Welcoming Cities is engaging with interested regional councils to consult, partner, plan and commence initiatives to strengthen welcome and inclusion in local areas. This may include engagement with the Welcoming Cities network and the Welcoming Cities Standard.
